Hands Full of Glitter and Tofu : 2011 Day 276 - If You Go Down To the Park Today....

Today, being a public holiday (which by law must be spent doing as little as possible, while deliberately avoiding any hint of Outlook controlled activities), my gorgeous guy and I slept in, ate crumpets on the balcony (as one does, doncha know), and then went for a long, meandering walk in Sydney Park - the weather was sunny but with a crisp, cool breeze, the wetlands full of ducks and Pea Hens, and with my guy holding hands with you, the walk was damn near perfect. Here is what we saw:

Hands Full of Glitter and Tofu : 2011 Day 275 - Warm the Houses.... in Croydon and Erko!

What a fabulous day!

Long sleep in - making up for losing the hour of sleep that the start of Daylight Saving robbed from us wantonly and with scant regard for our vitality and sense of unending zinginess - then off to the lovely Elle's in Croydon for a Lord of the Rings marathon with her equally lovely sister Beth, her delightful boyfriend, Lachlan, and friends from my writing group, Selina, Jacqueline and Nick. Now to be honest, we missed the first movie entirely, and lost about 1/2 hour of Two Towers but watched it in all its extended glory from 2.30 to 5.45 before watching the first 45 minutes of Return of the King. As is Peter Jackson's want, there was a heap of new extended material that really didn't add much to the story in one sense, but which was wonderfully rich and involving anyway. We also riffed off each other beautifully, creating what to us at least was fantastically hilarious commentary. My gorgeous guy and I had so much fun and I can't wait for the rumoured Star Wars marathon. That will be fun!!

Raced back home from Elle's for the premiere of new show Terra Nova, which is set 85 million years in the future, where mankind, having destroyed the Earth of 2149, is attempting to re-start civilisation in a different time stream, with hopefully far better results than the first time. It was fun, if a little lightweight, and family drama-ish, but we (Waz, Fahmi, Aiden, my gorgeous guy and I) ate Alberto's pizzas, drank wine and had a rollicking good time!

Hands Full of Glitter and Tofu : 2011 Day 274 (Saturday 1 October) - The Never Ending Brunch... and a Fabulous Birthday Dinner

First off an impromptu brunch with Waz, Fahmi and my gorgeous guy @ South End Cafe, which was in favour with us under the founders who cooked innovative fun food in a friendly atmosphere, fell out of favour with us when the second owner took over and tried and failed to keep the original ethos alive and kicking, and has leapt back into favour with whoever the hell owns it now. All I know is the Pea & Haloumi Pancakes are back baby and delicious as ever!!

Then we spent about 4 hours meandering up and down King Street, ostensibly looking for gifts for Brett's birthday dinner that night (which we found in Octopus) and my magazine, Entertainment Weekly at Magnation, but also looking in all sorts of antiques and clothing stores, and stopping for a yummy afternoon tea at Citrus, which provided a nice rest stop on our relaxing, but exhausting afternoon ramble along my favourite street in the world.

Finished up a very full day with a wonderful get together with many of the gay guys we collaborate with for our Fair Day extravaganzas for Brett's birthday at the Double Bay 18 Footers Club. The venue has a great deal of sentimental significance for me since this is where my late Great Aunt Lizzie used to take my sister, and brother and I when we visited Sydney (Not sure if Rachel, the younger of my two sisters ever made it here.) for dinner since she lived very close by in Darling Point. So it was lovely to be back here, catch up with a group of guys who know how to have fun, drink some lovely wine, eat some great food (my medium-cooked steak was superb) and watch Brett's cake almost go up in flames at the hands of an over-ambitious Chinese candle. Lots of fun!

Hands Full of Glitter and Tofu : 2011 Day 273 (Friday 30 September) - M-M-M-Migraine!

Migraine.

Busy uneventful Friday that started early checking on the food and arrangements for a major business breakfast my boss had that was supposed to feature a long, relaxed lunch at Macquarie Centre with my good work friend, Bill until.... MIGRAINE.

Cityrail Art #3 (thanks to Instagram and it's photo creating fun!)  - took this on the way home with the migraine threatening to break into full flight at any time (fortunately think I got the pain killers into my system just in time)

I lasted an hour and a half before heading home for a long nap about 2pm, and I am so glad I did as I wouldn't have lasted at work very long after the pain hit. Sadly it did mean I missed out on going to a special event my gorgeous guy had won attendance to -  a rehearsal session plus drinks with the Australian Chamber Orchestra. Thankfully, my dear friend Fahmi was able to go, in my place so my guy wasn't alone, and thankfully again, my beautiful man made it home by 9pm (by which time the migraine had receded, leaving me drained but pain free) so we could eat some yummy Indian food, and snuggle in front of the TV before bed.

Hands Full of Glitter and Tofu : 2011 Day 272 (Thursday 29 September) - Catching Up With Heather

So much fun at lunch today.

I didn't take it at my desk and I bought it! But it gets better peeps! (Yes I am using street language again and I know I promised not to do it but I feel vaguely hip when I do, and you wouldn't rob a 40 plus guy of a one fleeting moment of delusional hipness would you?) I had lunch with my wonderful friend Heather, who I started working with at FedEx, and later joined at Optus, who is now on maternity leave (Heather, not Optus), who came in especially when she heard about my exciting good news about the new job! How lovely is she to go to all that trouble?! She also brought in her beautiful 4 month old daughter, Millilani, and we were joined by her husband Ross, who was marking his second last day as a contractor at Optus.

Best lunch in so long and such a delight to see her!

Hands Full of Glitter and Tofu : 2011 Day 271 - Spiders group!

Off to my writing group tonight, spidersgroup, so named because someone's mother misheard the name one day, and as usual, little writing will be done. We will, however, talk about all manner of pop culture fun, I'll announce my big news, eat over priced food at City Extra, and go down then to sleep.

They are an awesome bunch of people, and it's fun whenever I see them. I expect tonight to be no different!

Hands Full of Glitter and Tofu : 2011 Day 270 - BIG NEWS!

I have resigned my job!

No, I have not taken collective leave of my senses (St George Bank if you're reading this, and I wouldn't be surprised if you were since Google and Facebook like to read everything I do, I am moving to another well paying job so please relax, and worry about Greece defaulting instead please) but rather I  have finally found my dream job which will involve assisting the owner and director with her writing/speaking/blogging/book authoring/magazine editing duties, as well eventually getting to write material for all those fora myself, which is even more exciting! Somewhere in there will be the mundane stuff too, but I am excited about finally having a job that marries up all my acquired skills, with my passion and love for writing, and I am beyond happy that a job I tagged as 'aspirational' actually exists and that I have managed to snare it!

One of the thrilling aspects of this is that the resume I wrote with my career coach, and which was written purely as an exercise for an aspirational job that I thought I'd never land, or at least, not for a number of years, didn't have to be amended at all! It is like God, or the Universe, knew even then at the start of the year that this job was mine. Exciting too that I was handpicked from the 18 short listed people invited to an information session last Wednesday night for an impromptu interview with the owner and her business manager straight after the session. Thank goodness I had Googled the hell out of the company, my new boss, and everything she'd ever done and written so I was well prepared for an interview I didn't know I was happening! The interview was warm and friendly but chock full of great questions and it was probably one of the best, most engaging interviews of my life. My new boss is very friendly, with a ready laugh, and quick wit, and I think we are going to work very well together.

The second interview was also lots of fun over coffee at The Kirribilli Club in Milson's Point. We talked for two hours, back and forth with ease, in what my new boss had decided was like an RSVP date where we could tell each other anything, and should since we'd be such a close knit team. What was truly exciting about this interview was that she seemed genuinely excited and thrilled about what I could offer, what we could do together, and where it could lead. She even got up from her side of the table, ran around and hugged me when I accepted the job. It was a lovely moment and really sealed the deal for me! (All witnessed by my lovely guy who was parked out on the street and saw us talking animatedly like two old friends!)

This is a very happy day! (Thus far only a few close friends, and my bosses know I have resigned but I am sure word will spread fast as it always does in any work place.)

Hands Full of Glitter and Tofu : 2011 Day 268 - Wet Baby Wet!

It rained a LOT today.

gloriously so...and it was cold. Normal people hate this kind of weather but I love it. Cold, rainy weather has a lovely snuggly vibe to it and that's just what my guy and I did all day.

He pottered around his apartment reorganising his bookcase, I blogged and blogged and blogged, only venturing out to get vittels including pies from the local Vietnamese bakery which weren't too bad really. High praise indeed right?!

Anyway it was one of those delightfully chilled days that make the weekends so relaxing and good for the soul.

Hands Full of Glitter and Tofu : 2011 Day 267 (Saturday 24 September) - I Love Me a Sausage in my Mouth

Quite the foodie day really!

We had a very late brunch, called Lunch by normal folks at Post Cafe in Marrickville Cafe and the food was DIVINE DARLING DIVINE! Seriously yummy lime and dill beer batter on barramundi fillets with the most perfect chips, and my gorgeous guy's brioche stack with thick slices of haloumi cheese was impressive too. I could have just sat on our stools at the window side tables all day and waited for dinner....

....BUT dinner was out somewhere else entirely! After a badly needed nap (and some bookcase shopping), my gorgeous guy, Fahmi and I went to Bench Wine Bar on King Street, one of the new micro bars that are sprouting all over Sydney town, for pre-dinner drinks with Warren, Ian and Stephen. The service and ambience were top notch and I could have happily stayed there all night......

Fahmi and Stephen seated in front of the funky POP! culture mural

Sausages YUM, Mash YUM, mushy peas YUM!!!

Ian, Warren (hiding behind Ian), Fahmi, Stephen and my gorgeous guy

BUT we had dinner reservations across the road at Smash Sausage Kitchen, a gourmet sausage place with all sorts of cool flavours, fantastic warm friendly service, great wine and the yummiest apple crumble I have had in ages. It came to about $45 per person but that was great value considering we had all entrees, mains, 2 bottles of wine, and dessert..... plus a ton of fun catching up with each other!

....and yes we made all sorts of innuendo-laden comments about sausages....like we could let that opportunity slip by!

Hands Full of Glitter and Tofu : 2011 Day 266 - TGIF? Honto ni!

Fabulous night out at Kujin Restaurant in Elizabeth Bay for me and my gorgeous guy with the lovely Justin and Cam - champers to celebrate an exciting development in my life (all to be revealed soon I promise), soft shelled crab, okonomiyaki cabbage pancake and teriyaki chicken, white wine, and 'desert'. Well we might have had dessert, except that of the items on the list, only 2 or 3 were available so a perfectly delightful relaxed night of TGIF conversation, we retired to Anderson's Ice Cream on the corner of Macleay Street and Darlinghurst Road for yummy waffle cones of ice creamy goodness, farewell kisses and hugs and a quick drive home.

Then to catch some much needed end of the week ZZZZZs.
