Swimming Pretty in the Glass-Half-Full 2012: Day 40 - Mixed Bag!

Today was quite the mixed bag of things with no real theme. (Is there ever really a theme? This is life so it's not like an episode of my favourite TV show; and yet I expect some overarching them to emerge... I think I watch too much TV)

First, Rose (at work) got a PR gift (we get them all the time) which included Valentines Day candy - I randomly selected one and got "Blue Eyes" which is tres apropos since I do, in fact, have blue eyes. Eerie... or not...

Then I got a text from Optus telling me they'd discontinued my staff wireless broadband plan - I ceased to be a member of staff three months so way to not process things guys! - and replaced it with a $29.95 per month 4 Gb plan that naturally I would have to pay for. The problem here? When I filled out my termination form, I didn't ask for a replacement plan! Lord knows why they decided I wanted one but it took many phone calls to get it killed off, which is typical of a company with more layers of bureaucracy than a totalitarian state.

And finally, my guy came back from Bathurst after four days away and apart from quite a lot of overdue hugs and kisses, we had dinner at our favourite Turkish eatery on King Street, Matee, where the service was sweet but scatter-brained and the food delicious.

Hands Full of Glitter and Tofu : 2011 Day 284 - Dark Ninja Duckies!

In the lead up to leaving work, I have a million and one things to do. One of those things is a large and exhaustive handover document which has proven extraordinarily difficult to write since I keep getting interrupted. So I got up ridiculously early, caught the 5.55 a.m. train, the 6.30 bus and started work at 6.50. Oy vey! Good thing is I got lots done, so it was all worth it. Just as well!

St Peters staion @ 5.55 a.m.

Optus bus stop in Clarence Street at 6.30 a.m.

The sun rises over the street outside the campus

The view from my desk
The great joy today was seeing the 9 duckling from this season alive and kicking and growing so very fast. Given last year's carnage when only 1 duckling survived, this year's survival rate is wonderful!

Hands Full of Glitter and Tofu : 2011 Day 278 (Wednesday 5 October) - Fluffy Ducks

Sounds like a new cocktail right?

Wrong. It's this year's brood of Optus-bred ducklings who are ridiculously cute and growing bigger by the second. The best part - started off with 9 ducklings and there are still 9! Such a relief.....

Hands Full of Glitter and Tofu : 2011 Day 272 (Thursday 29 September) - Catching Up With Heather

So much fun at lunch today.

I didn't take it at my desk and I bought it! But it gets better peeps! (Yes I am using street language again and I know I promised not to do it but I feel vaguely hip when I do, and you wouldn't rob a 40 plus guy of a one fleeting moment of delusional hipness would you?) I had lunch with my wonderful friend Heather, who I started working with at FedEx, and later joined at Optus, who is now on maternity leave (Heather, not Optus), who came in especially when she heard about my exciting good news about the new job! How lovely is she to go to all that trouble?! She also brought in her beautiful 4 month old daughter, Millilani, and we were joined by her husband Ross, who was marking his second last day as a contractor at Optus.

Best lunch in so long and such a delight to see her!
