365 Pink Feather Boas All in a Row - Day 12 : Still Sicker Than a...um... Well Person

Today the dreaded lurgy continued to swim, cavort, and pirouette through my body like a ballerina cross bred with a rugby player on a bender. No, I have no idea what that really means either but it kind of captures the sense that my body is finally showing signs of returning to the well-poised and healthy biological machine it usually is, while still feeling, thanks to the arthritic feeling in my hands and legs, like it’s being pummeled from the inside out by a none too gentle force.

Thankfully the main thing is I seem to be getting better bit by bit. My throat still hurts true but it’s not like razor blades are shredding my throat like even a day or two ago and that is a lovely thing to experience. Still, improvements aside, my body still needs lots of tender loving care, naps, DVDs and the following three critical items without which my days would be all the poorer:

The Antibiotics. They didn’t seem to be working yesterday but I woke this morning to a throat that didn’t cry “Motherf***er I am going to kill you!” every time I swallowed but just simmered with a resentful teenager-esque brooding unhappiness, and that was, believe it or not, a delightful change. I almost managed to drink some juice without wincing but not quite. Maybe tomorrow.

Maggi 2 Minute Noodles. I haven’t eaten these in this sort of quantity since uni days and frankly they aren’t half bad. Not gourmet eating true, but faced with eating nothing much of anything, finding anything that got past my angry, bitter-at-the-world throat without starting off a major tantrum was a godsend, and so I have been downing these for breakfast, lunch and dinner usually with chicken soup. Of course I can’t wait till I can handle a tad more variety in my diet!

Strepsils. How soothing are these little miracles? One of these little beauties and my throat was transformed for 20 minutes or so into a happy compliant bunch of cherubic beings, softly singing nursery rhymes in tune. Of course forget to keep using them, and the  aggression teenagers with no social graces quickly returned.

I am heartily looking forward to kicking this virus to the curb. While its been lovely in one day to have some time off, there is a limit to how many DVDs you can watch, and books you can read in one day, and weird though it may sound, gong back to work won’t seem so bad especially if I can eat properly again and it heralds the return of normality, which isn’t looking too bad right now!
