Hands Full of Glitter and Tofu : 2011 Day 183 - Happy Birthday Fahmi.... AGAIN!
Yes, yes I know Fahmi's 50th birthday was a month ago. How could I forget when we invested so much time and effort to make it a truly memorable event that people to this day compare to the most epoch-making events in history? (Well not really but it sounds very grandiose to say that, and who's to say that isn't true?)
The obligatory facebook check in shot! |
But far too close to the original party on June 4, we decided to purchase a special present for him - the entire collection of Aretha Franklin's recordings while she on the Columbia label in a special deluxe CD package which Fahmi, as a devoted R & B fan would ADORE - and this only arrived after the event naturally so there was nothing for it but to have another smaller gathering with those who contributed to the present. So today, after refusing to tell Fahmi why we were having this lunch, my gorgeous guy & I, Warren & Jono, Mr Moore, and of course, the perpetual birthday boy himself gathered at one of our favourite restaurants, Matee on King Street for lots of dips, falafel, beautifully BBD'd lamb, chicken and beef, and the most delicate soft Turkish bread anywhere (seriously if I could make my bed with it, I would!), much white wine, and present giving.
Long story short - he loved the gift and the bottle of Louis Roderer champagne (tres chic and yummo, and a damn sight less expensive than the Cristalle we thought would be fun to get), has been playing the CDs ever since, and adored us making so much extra fuss of his birthday.
It's worth it - he's a great guy and a wonderful friend, and deserves all that and more. Glad it all went down such a treat. I now declare his birthday officially at an end.
