365 Pink Feather Boas All in a Row - Day 123 : May the Fourth Be With You!
....Or Strong on May Fourth He Is, Yes....
I have two main memories of Star Wars - the first one is when I went to see the first movie, now christened A New Hope (as opposed to the old cruddy one I suppose?) with my mum at the old Ballina cinemas, or rather cinema, in River Street. While I may have seen movies at the cinema before that, its the first movie I distinctly remember seeing and it really impacted me. I loved it! I naturally bought the T-shirt, the trading cards, the books...... yep, just like every other young guy in the late 70s.....
My other memory was taking a high school class mate of mine, Jenny Pratten, on a date (back when I was straight - haha!) to see The Return of the Jedi in 1983 at the Lismore Cinemas. I think we had dinner, and yes I loved the movie, but clearly it did not lead to a life time of wanting to be with girls....
All in all, as a child of the 70s, I loved, and love, Star Wars and while the newer movies leave something to be desired, there is no desiring the impact of these movies on popular culture...
Plus saying "May the Fourth Be With You!" is so fabulously daggy....gotta adore it right?
