Holding the Reins of the Runaway Extrovert 2013: Day 347 - BEST ... CARTOON ... EVER

Quiet day at home, applying for jobs, blogging etc which was made completely by this awesomely good cartoon in The Sydney Morning Herald ...

It captures everything I am feeling about the shambolic mess that is Tony Abbott's first 100 days in government.

Well done Moir!

Holding the Reins of the Runaway Extrovert 2013: Day 168 - They said what was news?

One of the great joys of commuting, apart from its ridiculous broadsheet size which admittedly caused problems on crowded trains, was reading the Sydney Morning Herald.

There was so much news, opinion, features that getting through it on a commute was a real challenge.

Not so now. It is slimmer, almost devoid of real news and in the great race to the bottom that all of the media seems to be engaging in lately as we get so busy we can't appreciate quality anymore - or so the idiot media barons think - inclined to rampant tabloidism ... like this ...

Yes a story on why you have bad hair days made page 2 of the Herald. Seriously.

The world is an utter joke ...

Holding the Reins of the Runaway Extrovert 2013: Day 63 - The all-new Sydney Morning Herald

It was the big launch of the new tabloid ... I mean ... compact version of The Sydney Morning Herald and here are my tweets discussing my reactions to seeing it for the first time.

Holding the Reins of the Runaway Extrovert 2013: Day 60 - Lots of rain ... the last broadsheet Herald ... and Torch Song Trilogy

So it rained. A LOT.

And it was the last time the Sydney Morning Herald would be published as a broadsheet - it switches to a tabloid ... sorry "compact" form on Monday - and so I bought two copies of what Steve calls the Sydney Morning Weekly (its gone downhill in recent years) ...

And then off to see Torch Song Trilogy at the Darlinghurst Theatre.

Holding the Reins of the Runaway Extrovert 2013: Day 54 - Reading the Saturday paper

Apart from a brief excursion to Cinema Paris to see a movie with Ian tonight - one of the Mardi Gras Film Festival ones, Sex of the Angels, which was EXCELLENT - it was a late sleep in, relaxed brunch, chill and read kind of day, which is exactly what we both needed.

Also Spectrum in the SMH had an article on an author who I recently interviewed, Catherine Howell, and who is now a Tweep.

Hands Full of Glitter and Tofu : 2011 Day 260 (Saturday 17 September) - Manly Night Out

Started the day off with brunch with Waz @ Straits Kaffe in the Motto building, Erskineville

I read the paper for a little bit while Steve called his folks in Melbourne (his 78 year old mother had fallen a couple of days previously at their holiday home @ Phillip Island and broken her arm, poor thing) then I napped while Steve constructed the remaining drawers of his IKEA TV entertainment unit, after which we put some more of the actual unit together before...

The hazards of kneeling on the carpet to lift the unit without seeing a stray screw that shredded my knee
... we caught the train from St Peters (see immediately below) to Manly for a birthday dinner at the 16ft Skiff Club (with the world's most stressed and rude doorman who initially wouldn't let us in due to a capacity crowd watching the World Cup inside) for Steve's old work friend, Ann who along with her partner, Jeff, is absolutely delightful. Steve once worked with most of the guests, all part of a project years ago where they became quite close, and they were all so friendly, warm and welcoming. It became quite obvious why they got on so well.

We drank lots of wine, caught the ferry there and back (on the way back with Gary and Janet, and another Jeff), enjoyed the peace and calm of being out on the Harbour, had some brilliant, conversations, and got home very late (try 1 a.m.) from an awesomely enjoyable night.
