365 Pink Feather Boas All in a Row - Day 219 (Saturday 7 August 2010) : Go the Mighty Hawks!

...or How Andrew Went to an AFL Game and Had a Ball! No really.....

Yes I actually had fun at a sporting event! After being bored senseless watching the drag races at Grafton as a child, or fishing (twice - once very badly at a beach then at a lake in Wisconsin back in 1989), and only ever really enjoying the occasional basketball or baseball game, I had a ball today watching AFL. Yes that AFL! My gorgeous guy's sister was in town from Melbourne and she is a massive Hawthorns fan (a club member for 22 years, who bought me my very own Hawthorns scarf!) so we'd bought tickets to see the Hawthorn Hawks vs Sydney Swans, along with my guy's friends from Canberra, Chris & Phoebe, at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Steve and Chris watch the game intently

Who knew it would be so much fun? The deafening roar of the crowd - most of whom were cheering for the Swans but no matter - the endless energy (not to mention their hot bodies in tight sporting gear) of the players, the pomp and pageantry of the game, the pies, beer and wine (and King Size KitKat - yeah!) .... it all added up, along with my delightful companions, to a fun afternoon in the sun.... yes we (I am now officially a dyed in the wool Hawthorns supporter....sorry Swans, but love trumps geographical allegiances) lost but the whole experience was such a blast it almost didn't matter. Almost.....

My guy and his lovely sister

Still clad in scarves and beanies, we headed for Randwick, where Phoebe and Chris were staying, to have dinner, starting with wine at the Royal Hotel, before moving on to the Morrocan Feast restaurant where we had some of the yummiest restaurant food ever. The conversation was sparkling and fun, and along with designer chocolates we had picked up earlier, and secretly ate with dessert, the night was too much fun for just one social outing.

What a fabulous day!
