Hands Full of Glitter and Tofu : 2011 Day 38 - Not the Sort of Thing You Want Happening Ever But Definitely Not Near a Wedding
I am off to the wedding this weekend of my old house mate Andrew, and his wonderful fiancee Monika, in Melbourne with my beautiful guy and naturally I am very excited about it, especially because I am giving a speech to the groom in tandem with my very good friend Jane who is giving a speech to the bride. Using the musical tastes of Andrew (heavy metal) and Monika (eclectic but includes the Sound of Music), we have crafted a fun speech that included a musical mash up of Enter Sandman (Metallica) and Do Re Mi (Sound of Music) to start the speech, and Gwen Stefani's mash up of Little Goatherd in her song, Wind It Up, to finish up proceedings. So Jane & I, with her husband Jeff watching rehearsed it for the first time tonight after I had my final resume writing session with her and it all came together very nicely - a (hopefully) hilarious mix of vaudeville and heartfelt sentiment - and we're hoping it will go down a treat!
But before all this, we heard that Monika, the bride-to-be, had been knocked off her bike on the way to work that morning and broken the lower part of one of her legs, requiring surgery and two weeks at least off her feet. Thankfully in every respect she is physically OK although bound to be disappointed she will be in a wheelchair for her big day, and we're all so relieved that she isn't more badly hurt, and can marry the love of her life this weekend.
