Hands Full of Glitter and Tofu : 2011 Day 161 (Friday 10 June) - The Fam Part 1

It was an up, up and away day today as my gorgeous guy and I flew home to see my family up on the Far North Coast in Alstonville. I was going to say sunny Alstonville since it's up in the semi-tropical part of the state but apart from a few glimpses of sun-lite on the Saturday, it rained, with Sunday and Monday being torrential.

Our plane!

My suitcase...next to the red ones closest to us...at least we know it made the plane!

Zara loves planes

But it didn't put a damper on the trip up there, which saints be praised, got to Ballina airport almost at time! My sister Helen picked us up, along with my adorable almost 2 year old niece, Zara, who was fascinated by the planes (see above), and we headed home from Ballina on the new bypass, stopping at McDonalds on the way for sundaes for Dad, and me as it turned out (I had forgotten how good they are; I haven't been to McDonalds in years since I got together with my gorgeous guy who doesn't like the place, on nutritional and ethical grounds.... truth be told I don't miss it all that much).

We got home, and the Nikon gene was unleashed. I am famous, or is that infamous, for taking a ton of photos when I am home, and seeing my gorgeous niece Zara and nephew Bodhi, and why wouldn't I be? I barely see them because I am so far away, and I want as many photos of them as I can get! Besides, I am ridiculously sentimental, and letting any major event go unmarked by over the top amounts of photos would be anathema. I am trying to lessen the number I take though since I often forget to just experience the moment as I am recording it. Is there a photo-taking 12 step course I wonder?

Zara loves going out into the backyard with Nanna (my mum) to collect oranges from our tree and lemons from the neighbour's tree.

Mum looking up at the oranges to far out of reach while Zara examines a just acquired one with the ever present Num Num (dummy) in her mouth

Showing off the fruit she'd just picked.

Yummy slices challenged my I Shall Not Overeat This Weekend decision almost immediately - a sultana slice and a passionfruit cheesecake slice.... who can resist right?!

Zara almost too big for this activity centre but loves place in it still

She was so excited when her dad, Shayne, arrived from the Gold Coast where they live. She shook with excitement and ran to greet him.
I took this photo with the iPhone and Bodhi was fascinated that he could see himself on the screen

Both Bodhi - with dad Michael - and Zara love riding on Dad's people mover, with Bodhi particularly loving it, encouraging you to start going by moving back and forth quite fast till you start moving.

Bodhi isn't walking unaided yet so he loves to walk endlessly around and around the house with his dad Michael holding him up, his head down and powering ahead. In this instance it turned into a game where he was 'chasing' Zara, who loves to be chased.

He is photogenic, and smiles at the drop of a hat. So cute!

Shayne is so tall that Dad waits till he comes to visit to replace the lights

He is so cute and loves looking at everything

The lamb dinner in all it's mouth watering glory

The cutest shot. Bodhi has been walked around the corner by Rachel, his mum, when Zara mischievously poked her head around the corner.

This has been nicknamed the Hallelujah pose by my sister.

Mum makes the richest, sweetest caramel sauce, which goes perfectly with madeira cake and vanilla ice cream!

Bodhi getting ready for bed in his sleeping bag, cute to his last waking moment for the day

The afternoon was wondefully chilled, with my sister Rachel, brother in law, Michael, and nephew Bodhi, and my brother Steve & girlfriend, Aimee, arriving throughout it. There was lots of laughter, and food - the eating commenced almost immediately with delicious slices racheting up the calorie count almost from the moment we arrived, and finished up with a insanely yummy lamb roast dinner around the bug dining table.

I love seeing my family!
