Hands Full of Glitter and Tofu : 2011 Day 134 a (Saturday 14 May) - Eurovision Semi Final 2 : Glitter, Glam, Singing

Bright sunshiney colours of Solvakia. Shame about the song. However, as I noted in my twin tweets about Slovakia, they did do plenty right if you count adhering to Eurovision tradition, the right thing to do - (1) 'Thank goodness Slovakia has returned the white dtress and wind machine to Eurovison prominence!' & (2) 'And now Slovakia has pyrotechnics! Score!!'

Moldova. Absolutely awful song with the title So Lucky shouted out like a slogan of the demented. But they were so much fun! They wore wacky hats as my tweets celebrated - 'Termite mound hats are back in and no one tole me! Thx for the fashion tip Moldova!'  followed by 'Wait it's Devo meets Noddy' 9My gorgeous guy's observation) - and for no reason had a pink wing wearing woman in a frilly tutu come riding on in a unicycle! How can you not love that?!

Ah Sweden. Great catchy song, although a little needy lyrically, but oh so cute!! YUM!

Yep, still OH SO CUTE....

All the fab contestants for the night!

Bulgaria - great song but what really appealed to me was tweeted to all - 'I Love Bulgaria's song and the fact that the lead singer has a red feathery tassel earring seals the deal!'

Poor MYR Macedonia - 'Someone call the exterminator! FYR Macedonia has a mime infestation!' (my tweet)

Romania fronted by a cute earnest Englishman who's been living in Romania for years... I suspect, with his boyfriend.

Tonight's fabulous home made headdress. Kerry is so imaginative and talented!

Yay Estonia. I don't care that the lyrics of your song made no sense. It was so much fun and pink and candy-like!

The theme this year was Feel the Heart Beat. Each postcard that proceeded an act showed a person of that nationality, famous or not, living and working in Germany, and finished with them saying or writing that phrase in their own language.

I LOVE this song! Yes the lyricist is overly obsessed with killer lips and luscious thighs but where's the harm in that? It didn't hurt that the singer was a cutie!

Denmark - bad boy hair-gelled pop. He and Jedward clearly share the same stylist!

Oh Jedward, Your music is pure candy junk food pop but how I grew to love it. I hate myself but I did.... and my tweet said 'Jedward were just brilliant! Featured my fave colour - red - and their act was like manic candy dancing1' It really was so fantastically over the top!

Start of the song and it's one man down already!

Stunning background visuals!

Our three hosts try valiantly once again to prove they have chemistry and a sense of humour, failing on all counts. Nice dresses though ladies!

Sam Pang and Julia Zemiro did a fabulous hosting job, kicking up the politically incorrect banter 100 fold from last year and clearly having a ball doing it! Loved the retro dress Julia! Bella!

So here's who I picked as my Top 10 (only 10 of the 19 countries made it through to the final), and here's who actually won (Moldova?! Well odd song but quintessential Eurovision look and feel, it has to be said)

MY PICKS

Bosnia & Herzegovina, Austria, Moldova, Sweden, Bulgaria, Israel, Slovenia, Estonia, Latvia, Ireland
WHO ACTUALLY MADE IT THROUGH

Estonia, Romania, Moldova, Ireland, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Denmark, Austria, Ukraine, Slovenia, Sweden

>> Like last night there were groans of dismay and disbelief when some countries got in and others didn't but it wouldn't be Eurovision without weird left of centre voting choices! At least wacky crazy Moldova got through so we avoided a completely pretty and normal final!
