Hands Full of Glitter and Tofu : 2011 Day 132 b (Thursday 12 May) - Kerry Arrives for OoroFest 2011!
With all my glitter-saturated musings complete, I headed for the airport to collect my dear friend, and fellow proud Euro tragic, Kerry for the start of the festivities. From the moment we met up - slightly delayed by a mobile phone call she had to finish; but almost from that moment - we were sparking back and forth about the glitz, and glamour of Eurovision, our favourite acts - she loves Hungary while I still think the woman has narcissistic tendencies and is emotionally high maintenance no matter how statuesque her build - our excitement at what lies ahead.... and in matters completely unrelated to Eurovision, how we're feeling about our lives, with work figuring prominently as something we both need to address, but for different reasons. Sitting with her over sushi at my beloved Sushi Train - perhaps 'beloved' is too strong a word but I do like the place - I was so glad she was there because my life, and Eurovision watching, would not be even remotely complete with her. She is a precious friend indeed, and makes moments like this far more than the viewing of an avalanche of kitsch but rather the sharing of something special between friends.
See Eurovision is capable of so much more than songs about overcoming adversity using weird rhyming couplets. Barely, it's true but it is...
Hey we found the frozen mulled wine from last year, thawed it and drank some of it! Booyah! YUM! |
