Swimming Pretty in the Glass-Half-Full 2012: Day 291 - I ranted ... for a good cause

Miranda Devine, a right wing commentator, has posted a piece in the Murdoch suite of papers and online stating that a program to assist students to recognise homosexuality as just as normal as heterosexuality was a gay conspiracy to bring in heterophobia. It was a hyped-up utterly uncompassionate attack on a program whose sole intent is to give kids a wider world view and hopefully cut down on bullying of LGBTI students.

I suffered as one back in school and it prompted this flurry of tweets above. I got a lot of support back but it angers me that people like Miranda Devine can be so entrenched in their conservative hateful positions that they feel to see how damaging their comments are.

It's peoples' lives and emotional sanity at stake here; not just abstract pseudo-religious positions, and it's high time they acknowledge that. (No, I won't hold my breath waiting.)
